Research and development
Wallonia offers a services of aids for R&D which aim to help companies reinforce their innovation potential, acquire external knowledge for a project's implementation, conduct a research project, carry out a development project, create a spin-out from technologies mastered by the company but not exploited, protect innovation or even prepare a European intervention application or acquire the Eureka label.
Regional and federal measures
On a federal level, a series of tax cuts have been set up, such as tax exemption for the revenue of companies, the partial exemption of the payment of withholding tax on professional income for researchers' salaries, etc.
On a regional level, grants or recoverable advances are available for all industrial research or experimental development projects (including "prototyping"). These aids can cover up to 40 to 70% of admissible expenditure.
Innovative enterprises are also encouraged in their approaches via numerous aids and support measures that allow them to access the resources (financial, human or technological) needed to materialise their objectives.
Facilities at the service of Innovation
Wallonia has facilities dedicated to research activities: 7 science parks gathered together in a network (SPoW) aim to welcome and supervise technological enterprises.
The Biopark Charleroi Brussels South brings together university research institutes, technological platforms, enterprises, research promotion structures and a training centre in the biotechnologies sector.
BioWin, the Wallonia health competitiveness cluster
In order to allow the research world to meet the world of enterprises and build partnerships and alliances, BioWin, the Wallonia health competitiveness cluster, gathers together the main stakeholders (enterprises, research centres and universities) involved in research, development and the production of innovative products and services.
