WSL recognised as one of the ten best tech incubators in the world
At the 2019 World Incubation Summit in Doha last week, the international association UBI* introduced WSL as one of the ten most successful incubators in the world and among the top five in Europe.
WSL, the incubator for techno-entrepreneurs, supports Walloon engineering science projects. As well as having infrastructures throughout Wallonia (Charleroi, Gembloux, Liège, Louvain-la-Neuve, Mons and Namur), WSL makes its expertise available to assist techno-entrepreneurs in their development both in Wallonia and abroad.
WSL was founded in 2000 by the Walloon Government and was the first European technology incubator. WSL has constantly evolved to keep pace with developments and reality on the ground. In 2007, it became the best European incubator for techno-entrepreneurs
This year's ranking not only confirms the recognition achieved last year within the UBI, it also draws attention to the important work carried out to develop Deep Tech in Wallonia as a real tool for the region's reindustrialisation.
"Being selected as one of the ten best incubators in the world and ranked in the European Top 5 is magnificent. We have supported more than 160 projects to date, with a success rate of 87% and a five-year survival rate of 97%. This is a remarkable result whose real value has been recognised by UBI and one that our Region should be proud of," added Agnès Flémal**.
(*) UBI Global is a global association founded in 2013; it comprises 1,200 incubators and accelerators worldwide and represents some 20,000 start-ups in 90 countries. UBI Global regularly conducts global reference studies on business incubators and accelerators.
(**) Ms Agnès Flémal is currently nominated for the title of Manager of the Year 2019.
