Belgium among the top 10 countries for internet speed
The average Internet connection speed in Belgium is considerably higher than the global average. Our country finished 6th highest in the global rankings, based on more than 163 million speed tests carried out in 200 countries by M-Lab.
Two more places for Belgium
The measurements taken between June 2017 and May 2018 confirm our progress: with an average speed of 36.71 Mbps (Megabits per second), Belgium moved up two places and is the sixth best country in the world in terms of its Internet connection speed.
At this speed, it takes just 18 minutes and 36 seconds to download a 5 Gb (Gigabit) film.
Significant progress was made between 2017 and 2018, with a 9.34 Mbps increase in twelve months.

36 European countries in the ranking
According to the report by M-Lab and its partners, Europe is home to 36 of the 50 fastest countries.
The average speed of a domestic Internet connection globally is 9.10 Mbps.
Singapore tops the rankings with a speed of 60.39 Mbps, but France and the USA lag behind, with speeds of 24.23 Mbps and 25.86 Mbps respectively.
