AGC Glass Europe invests 10 million euros in its Lodelinsart plant
Following a technology development agreement between AGC and Panasonic, AGC Glass Europe is set to invest in the production of vacuum glazing, a technology that is remarkable due to its energy performance, in its Lodelinsart (Belgium) plant.
Production is scheduled to start in March 2019 and will mainly target the construction sector.
The new production unit will combine Panasonic's expertise in screens and AGC's skills in glass processing, to produce glazing whose thermal and acoustic insulation is as good as or even better than triple glazing. Its thickness of less than 1 cm is, however, four times less than that of identical sized units and its weight is one third lower. The thinness of the vacuum glass also ensures better light transmission. It is marketed under the name of "Fineo" and will also offer an unparalleled aesthetic finish.
Serge Martin, New Business Development Manager at AGC Glass Europe
With Fineo we have the opportunity to design a new generation of ultra-high performance windows, or fit into an existing frame glazing that uses the most efficient environmental glass technologies at a reasonable cost.
The product will be available with the AGC multi-functional glass range (solar control, safety, acoustics, etc.) and will be aimed at both the new construction industry (tertiary and residential) and the renovation market, which has significant market potential in Europe. Fineo will be exhibited for the first time at the Glasstec international glass trade fair (23-26 October 2018) in Düsseldorf, Germany.
The investment, of approximately 10 million euros, will create around 20 direct jobs in its initial stage.
